Fugees - Vocab (Refugees Hip Hop Remix) [mp3]
Yesterday, I listened to the latest episode of The Champs Podcast, which features a lengthy interview with Pras from the Fugees.
Today, I am going down a rat hole of mid-90’s Hip Hop mp3s.
Dent May - Best Friend [mp3]
I hear you’re buying a synthesizer and an arpeggiator and are throwing your computer ukulele out the window because you want to make something real a summer jam.
Major Lazer - Get Free (ft. Amber Coffman of the Dirty Projectors) [mp3]
Is it too early to start the summer jams 2012 tag? ‘Cause seriously, this one is already there.
See previously: summer jams 2010, summer jams 2011
Flock of Dimes - Replica
Jenn Wasner (Flock of Dimes, and half of Wye Oak) wants to be a songwriter for others, and this is her song for Robyn. It’s really weird to hear her voice singing this kind of pop song after getting used to haunting songs like Wye Oak’s “Mary is Mary,” but that doesn’t make this song any less great.
The New Pornographers - Sing Me Spanish Techno
I feel bummed for anyone who doesn’t listen to this song 5 times a day and sing along to it at the top of their lungs.
The Dream - Fancy (Sinjin Hawke Bootleg) [zip]
Legitimately fancy.
Stevie Nicks - Edge of Seventeen [mp3]
Guys, can we discuss the extent to which this song has been stuck in my head for the last week?! Like… can. not. get. it. out. Pretty sure the only way I’m going to exorcise this track from my head is to Karaoke the living hell out of it asap.
Sidebar: can someone up me on where the good Karaoke spots are in Calgary?
Daft Punk - Digital Love (Allen Walker & Le Pimp Re-Write) [mp3]
Look, I realize posting Discovery-era Daft Punk remixes has been done to death but this one is new to me and sounds pretty great!
Rihanna Ft. Calvin Harris – We Found Love (Solidisco Bootleg) [mp3]
I’ve discovered a weird thing about Calgary events and parties. A Goodwin’s Law of sorts. The longer you spend at an event, the greater the probability that the original version of this Rihanna song will be played… and everyone (except me, goes nuts). It’s not like I’m hanging out at Coconut Joes or anything.
I don’t get the appeal. The original version of this song is four and a half minutes of stabby garbage. There isn’t even a “shut up, it’s pop music… just enjoy it” argument here. It’s lowest common denominator junk on heavy rotation.
Anyways this remix is fantastic and completely unfuckwitable.
Asura – He Sees On Through Her (Real) [mp3]
Gahhhh! So good. I’ve never heard a piece of experiemental-ish electronic music sound so delicate and face-melty all at the same time.
10/10.
