Long story short: I’ve been swamped with technical troubles for the last couple of my months.  My original laptop died, then sorta resurrected itself, then really died, then I bought a new laptop, then returned it, then bought a different one… and then had to go through the insane process of trying to restore all my data (read: music & software).  I’ve only just gotten things sorted out now.

This set is the first thing I created on the new laptop.  I was dying to mix, well, anything… and this is the result.  A blur of electrofied pop, house, and rap.  It’s a weird combination, but it seems to work.  17 songs in about 30 minutes.

A few months ago I decided that I wanted to record a dj set that was a retrospective of the state of electronic music over the 2000’s/the aughties/the last 10 years.  This mix is the result.  The funny thing it that this wasn’t how I expected it to turn out, at first I was going to make a set focused on pop, then I decided on pulling goofy/quasi-obscure stuff together, then I was going to group tunes by sub-genres.  I guess the end result is a blend of all these ideas.  Maybe.

Either way, I like how this thing turned out… lots of fast mixes, lots of energy, lots of memories.  38 songs in about 45 minutes.  Here’s the setlist:

I’ve flown home for a few events over the last couple of months.  All of these events have had after-(house)-parties.  Carpet and I tried to pull together a few DJ sets for these parties, but quickly realized that none of them were working… the tastes of those in attendance were too diverse. (Note: this isn’t a bad thing)

We later found a common ground for everyone with old-ish R&B.  Without fail, that stuff got hips moving, people singing along, etc.  This set is a result of that.  30 minutes of 90’s/early 00’s R&B mixed with a bit of hip hop (for my sanity).

I should point out that despite this being a workout mix it sounds just as great while sitting on a couch drinking a beer, or waiting for a bus while eating a doughnut.
