With that said, the Nicki Minaj verse on this track is NUTZ. Like, totally out of control and amazing. I think I ~~skimmed~~ read somewhere that Nicki sometimes raps using alter egos… and I’m pretty sure all of them showed up and are battling for control.

Here it is, the picture of me which sits on the proverbial Venn diagram intersection of awesome and stupid.

Hi Internet, I’ve been offline for the last week and it’s been wonderful. I was on a bit of a trek across BC doing the following:

driving endlessly
meeting up and hanging out with great friends, in fields, hot tubs, and patios
roughing it! with mosquitos! camp fires! and huddling for warmth!
mountain biking
white water rafting (yeah, I’m surprized at that one too)
public speaking
public drinking
playing with kids… and not being freaked out about it
attending a wonderful and intimate wedding
quietly dealing with loss (unrelated to any of the above)

Anyways, I’m home now. Summer 2010 has been nuts and/or well lived by me.

Regarding the fact that the Gap sells super-skinny jeans for pre-teens:

I believe they started selling these things a few months ago, but I’ve only recently seen this promotional picture of a nine year old girl wearing the skinny jeans and holding a Diana Camera (with a flash kit no less!) in a huge window display on Robson Street.

Can we deconstruct this ad for a second? Or at least can we acknowledge how ridiculous it is to accessorize a 9 year old child with a film-based, toy camera from the 1960’s. Are they seriously trying to have us believe that this 4th grader prefers the soft, dream like aesthetic of medium format film and the process of manual photography?! FUCK YOU, ADVERTISING AGENCY RETAINED BY THE GAP, INC. Why not have the kid stand next to a 1st generation IBM supercomputer, which is an equally irrelevant piece of technology that the child has no sense of reference or attachment to!?

Look, I realize advertising is all about selling an ideal persona. I also realize that parents treat their young children as dress up dolls and in turn, there’s appeal in dressing one up like a hipster (or whatever you call it)… maybe because the parent feels they can no longer dress like one them self? Whatever.

Either way, if you enjoy taking vintage photography and the look of fitted denim, your aesthetic judgment has been co-opted by people who have spent less time on earth than the iPod. Yay?

Yesterday, Tk and I were out in the Seymour Provincial Park/Deep Cove Park are training for our insane bike/hike/row race in September. Things were going good while we were mountain biking until I had a random miscalculation on a trail and did, what was described to me as, “a full hand stand over my handlebars”… and then fell to the ground, smashing my head on a series of rocks.

The fall really sucked. Bad. What made things 100% worse was that my helmet brim got caught on the rocks, pulling my helmet back, exposing my upper forehead. During all flailing and falling this area got banged and cut up real bad. Polysporin will be my hair product for the next while.

SO TAKE MY ADVICE, BIKE NERDS: strap your helmet on tight. Like really, tight. To the point where it becomes uncomfortable. If that thing can remotely move around, you might as well not wear one. (note: wear one!)
