So this is the new Lady GaGa video and I don’t really care and don’t want to talk about it.

What I do want to talk about is theories about the future of the recording industry circa 2000 - 2005.

Do you remember how people argued that because music sales were plummeting that labels/artists would need to find new sources of revenue? One of the commonly discussed theories was that product placement would become more and more common in music to a point where it might become confusing and overwhelming. Remember that? Well, that future is here now in this video. Yay?

young-gentlemens-club: Effy’s episode in series 2 is great and her then her episode in 3 blew my mind. it’s pretty much on the same level as the club scene with Sid. I’m waiting for series 4 to finish before i start but i hear it’s awesome.

Crystal Castles - Alice Practice [mp3]

I realize this song is 5,000 years old, but as mentioned before I’m in the midst of marathon watching season 2 of Skins (aka my current TV obsession). This song is featured heavily as Sid finally acknowledges his Dad has just died (Whoops! Spoiler alert). There’s no words, just a live performance of this track drowning everything out as he loses it. The whole scene is really well put together and the result, in the context of the show, is kind of disturbing (in a compelling TV sorta way).

And that’s why this song has been stuck in my head for days.

BONUS: You can actually watch the scene I’m talking about here… but the fact that it’s a dark, low-res youtube clip totally reduces the oh-my-gawd-this-is-amazing factor.

I’m normally not into teaser videos for albums but this is Jamie Lidell and dude can do no wrong as far as I’m concerned.

Either way, the song clips featured in the video are great. Really! Never mind all the Feist and Beck cameos. The best sounding stuff is the glitchy sampled R&B stuff he’s doing by himself. The new stuff appears to be a hybrid of both the Multiply and Jim albums… but not in a lazy way.

Anyways, could the month of May please hurry up and get here?

Agreed. Season 2 has been pretty solid - but - I have one question: How come almost all of the characters (even the secondary characters) just happen to be in successful grime or electroclash groups? Like groups that can draw big crowds. These guys are all supposed to be 18 years old right? Where do they find the time to practice music to such a standard AND go to school AND fight with their parents AND go to Russia AND do all the drugs AND promote their gigs?

Even the ones who aren’t in bands can sing like angels. Weird.

Other than that… BRAVO. Especially the season 2 Michelle & Sid episodes. BRAVO.
