Nirvana Members 'Dismayed And Very Disappointed' By 'Guitar Hero 5'
Oh, I know, you’re culture was so reeeeeal. It was a true movement. Your icons are untouchable. Grunge, Etc.
My 2 cents on this: I don’t think it’s an issue of generational gaps or the preservation of icons, but rather poor business savvy. According to wikipedia:
- Negotiations for the use of a Kurt Cobain character took 3 years. This wasn’t a hastily assembled agreement.
- These negotiations required agreement from those who have controlling interest of the Cobain Estate (i.e. Courtney Love) and those who have controlling interest of Nirvana’s catalog (i.e. Dave Grohl). Band members and crazy widows were fully informed about the intent.
Based on the length of negotiation and proximity to the contract, I’d find it really hard to believe that these guys have no idea what was going to happen. And if they genuinely didn’t know, ignorance of the contract that they signed is no excuse. Getting worked up after launch date is stupid and lazy.
All of this is most likely a tacky ploy to increase the profile of GH5. I mean, The Beatles Edition of Rock Band just came out this week right?
