Digable Planets’ Rebirth Of Slick is used as the soundtrack for a recient Tide commercial
Hey, it’s 2009… so getting worked up about a song you like being used in a commercial is pointless. With that said… out of all the songs from my early teenage years I never, ever, ever thought this would be used to promote something. Especially something like laundry soap. It blows my mind that in 1992 this song that was subtle protest against hip hop acts sounding more and more a like as the genre moved towards the mainstream… and now, 17 year later, it’s used to sell cold water detergent because the term “cool” is repeated in the chorus. Well played, modern day Don Draper.
I suppose this is no different than a song about coming to terms with heroin addiction being used to sell Royal Caribbean cruse line trips. Hey, Iggy Pop?
Ok, I’ll calm down shut up now.
