I hate to say it, but I think the top 20 songs of the 2000's selected by Pitchfork are spot on*
* with that said, I would have limited myself allowing only one song per artist in the top 20 and wouldn’t have included an Animal Collective song that’s only months old.
But the selection of Bombs Over Baghdad as number one is perfect. Not because of the Pitchfork position that B.O.B was a “highlight-reel prophecy of what the next 10 years held in store” (what?), but because this song simply can’t be fucked with. It was so potent and so different from everything else that came out in 2000… and still is today.
