For what it’s worth Destroyer’s Kaputt is my album of the year for 2011.
I can recall when this album came out thousands upon thousands of words were spilled by critics/bloggers/whatever about whether or not the early 80’s soft rock sound of this album was intentionally ironic and a joke at the listener’s expense or just a foray into something new for Bejar. I, on the other hand, didn’t give a fuck… the album was GREAT from first listen.  The songs are catchy, sonically perfect, and just weird enough to make sense for a Destroyer record.  This was the only album in 2011 that I not only listened to cover to cover, but on immediate repeat over and over for months at a time.  Yay!
Sidebar: my 2011 audio almanac should go live Monday-ish.
